“ronman.dev” Gets an Upgrade

I’m Back…

When I first set up my domain and blog, I was using Google for everything. Mostly out of convenience, to be honest. Google domains were easy to use, integrated seamlessly into Gmail and Blogger (a blogging website that Google owns/owned). That all came to a halt when Google sold off their registrar business to Squarespace.

While It was convenient, I wasn’t perfectly happy with the interface that blogger presented. So I’m taking the opportunity to update.

Goals and Intentions

With this new platform, I am going for something a bit more… aesthetic? I would like to post more, but we’ll see how that goes. I’m also opening the scope of my posts into two different categories. I’m going to continue (or try to) posting about things techy/security-y, but I’m also planning on posting about my leatherwork. Part of what has been distracting me from my posts on my blog have been the leatherwork I’ve been doing.

Dealing with Burnout

Burnout is a real thing. I mean, think about it. You work as a carpenter doing framing work all day. You get home, grab a beer and… what? Go out back and start framing your latest garage project? Nah, you’re tired!

Sure, white-collar jobs have less physical labor. Basically none, in fact. However, a similar form fatigue exists. On a stressful day, when I get home, I have mixed feelings. I’d like to write my own code, research what I want to, etc., but I just can’t. I need recouperation time. I’m sure most people in my field or similar fields can relate.

What I’ve found over the past couple years is that working with leather is really cathartic. There’s some level of thinking, planning the pieces, making sure things are lined up, etc. Enough to keep me interested, but not enough to keep me from relaxing. Think of it like taking a walk after a good workout.

So, with all that said, I wanted to share what I’ve been working on outside of writing code. I like to share what I’m doing and what I’m learning. So I’m going to try to post what I’m working on in leather as well. I may document some of the pieces I’ve made over the last couple years (and critique them to shreds) but I’ll also go more in-depth with upcoming pieces.

Restoring History

I have taken down my posts from Blogger, however I retained the write-ups that I had already posted as well as a couple that never made it to completion. I’ll be working on reformatting them and restoring them as well.
